About 20 years ago I was developing a handful of different storylines. They fell into two main categories: a set of more serious sci-fi stories that took place in an interconnected world, and a set of unconnected silly fantasy stories. For quite a while I struggled with the two sets of stories and came to the realization that the best thing to do would be to take the most developed parts of each story and integrate them into a larger whole. Thus Dimestore Novel was born as a mishmash of many different and interesting ideas. Since then, it hasn't become any simpler. Focusing on one big story helped me flesh out that world with many different characters and ideas, giving us all the large and unwieldy Dimestore Novel I know today.
